You ask a silly question of course, you are talking about human beings, people who are easily led! Did you think you were here on Earth with an intelligent species or something???
OK, joking aside, it's because people like to be dependent. If everyone really wanted to take responsibility for themselves and their own lives, do you think that the world would really be in such a mess?
By the way, meditation IS based on experiencing clear thought and does help make clarity out of reality!!!
