I was able to take early retirement and it was one of the best decisions I have made. Before I retired I was head of Marketing for a $3 billion product line at a very large high tech firm. My retirement has allowed me to enjoy my hobbies like: my Harleys; traveling; hiking local trails such as Umstead, Pilot Mountain, Grandfather Mountain and Raven Rock as well as more challenging places like the Grand Canyon, where I have hiked to the bottom and out, and stayed at the Phantom Ranch for a few nights and explored the Canyon. My engineering, fabrication and customization to one of my Harley motorcycles has received favorable attention from the CEO of Harley-Davidson Motor Company as well as their Marketing team. Since my children are now grown, it has been to good have visits with them and watch them grow into fine young men as they finish college and start their careers.
My friends say I have a very fertile wit. I think that comes from my ability to find humor in every day interactions. I find humor is a great way to find appreciate things around me. I am always up for a night at Charlie Goodnights in Raleigh. Retirement has given me a great deal of free time. I am always looking for ways to volunteer or other ways to spend it.
