Just a thought, if we accept AI's claim and pressure is placed on the administration to transfer him to the general population and then he is killed, the outcry will change to that of negligence. The conspiracy nuts would put it about that the US government did it in order to rid themselves of this problem.

A rock and a hard place eh?

If they keep him in solitary and relax their vigil, then he does kill himself, the same reaction can be expected.

Same rock, same hard place.

dunno

ahem.....actually, the US government doesn't really have to be in between such a rock and a hard place specially where there is a thing called "rendition"(**wink**wink**) which is very much in the line of US 'policies' dunno. Rendition will help the US 'neutralize' the snake without breaking the stickcool

i'm not so sure about getting out of solitary, but lessening the hardship of his conditions maybe (i know that wont please some people, but thats just my opinion)

the problem stems from his status as a prevention of injury, when there were clear negligible terms and 3 reports stating the opposite, which averhart decided to overrule, and which some have speculated has lead to averhart being replaced as brig commander

dunno

i dont have so much a problem with his incarceration, nor as such with his solitary confinement, under certain terms, but mostly the clear breaches of classification that LC averhart has used.

Fair enough, but my point is that the commander may have been making every effort to keep this man alive. Try to put yourself in his shoes for a moment, whatever one's belief. If this man dies in custody, who will be held up as a pariah?

BTW, I'm not condoning torture or defending anyone's actions, I'm just trying to understand. As you know, in a world of extreme views, the so-called truth often lies somewhere in the middle.

emmaline, a change in command (Averhart), doesn't mean a change in conditions for Manning.....Chief Warrant Officer Barnes will make the decision within the next couple of weeks about wether to keep Manning on POI status and will also evaluate the Max Security order.

The "change" in command from Averhart to Barns was planned in October and is nothing more than routine, regular-duty rotation. It wasn't situationally driven.....

Marine officials say the the POI was placed due to Pvt. Mannings behavior at the time of his arrest. Spokesman 1st Lt. Brian Villard said Averhart was justified in placing manning on suicide watch order..............

Apparently it was an "astonishing security lapse" which allowed Manning to copy these documents so whats happened to the people who allowed this "astonishing" lapse to happen - forgive me for not readin the whole thread....

Trish......not really, Pvt. Manning was an Intelligence Officer...he took a military Oath to defend his country...he had access to the Documents...the only mistake was in believing that Manning was loyal to his Country and to the Oath he took at the time of his enlistment....I am sure, in the future, the access Manning was given will be tightened up considerably and security measures and guidelines will be, (have been) placed to insure this type of breach will not happen again......if you think military operation is a "perfect world", you are being niave and foolish.....
