I was wondering if there are any computer savvy people who can give me some advice.

I want to buy a laptop for my new massage business ... and I am unsure of the specs I require that will meet my needs.

Originally I thought I would get -

a duo core processor but maybe a quad

4-6GB RAM

250GB hard drive or more

512 MB graphics card

I have been readings lots of specs and info but it all seems so difficult and confusing.. I don't want to buy something that is more than I need and waste money that would be better spent on marketing etc but I also don't want to buy something that wont meet my needs and therefore be a waste of money sigh

I read somewhere that unless I am going to do some serious gaming or doing some serious graphic designing or media design stuff then I probably don't need to get what I originally thought I would nned.

Basically the system will be used for -
a large volume of music (eg relaxation music)
a database of client information
storage of business stationery
microsoft office
email program (outlook)
IM programs such as MSN and Yahoo
and maybe the odd game or two for those times I have nothing to do (ie The Sims2 laugh)
and eventually I will have a website to design and maintain

so.. my question is.. is what I originally intended to get more than I need.. less than I need or about right? I was also thinking of getting a separate external drive for storing sensitive client information..

what do you think? confused dunno

Get a "P" series dual core, preferably "Centrino". 3Gig ram is all you need. Graphics card is optional, but you'll need one to play games. Just remember that graphics cards eat battery power... so if you want to use your laptop away from mains power, then you'll have to decide how important playing games really is. If you go for a large laptop, try to get one that will take a second internal hard drive.

Most importantly... spend as litle as possible... today's technology is tomorrow's junk.

I am loving the laptop i bought. It is an Acer Apsire with Intel Pentium dual core processor, (2.0 GHz, 667 MHz FSB, 1MB L2 cache), 15.6" HD Acer Cinecrystal LCD, up to 732 MB Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M, 2 GB DDR2, 250 GB HDD, DVD-Super Multi DL, Acer Nplify 802.1 1b/g/Draft-N WLAN. It also has built in webcam, 3 USB ports and card reader, running windows vista. I have absolutley no idea what most of that means but i thought it was a pretty good deal for $850. For a total of $1100 I got a wireless router also and the local computer store came and set it up for me and serviced my other PC. It is battery hungry though, I only have 2hrs away from the mains on power save mode.

Blonde...A good idea to check out Choice magazines website... I think off the top of my head its choice.com.au ... they basically do all the research for you in most cases.. I checked it out when buying a digital camera and came away with a much more suitable camera for my needs than what I thought originally.

It costs nothing to have a look.

Cheers

Blonde,

I dont know much about computers. I have a laptop. I have an external storage thingie blushing where I save all my clients bookkeeping accounts. That way I back up onto the internal harddrive and also on my external one, so if there is ever a problem I wont loose information.

It also holds all my photos and stuff like that so I dont use too much space on the laptop.

Hope that helps a little.
