blondeaozichick: and I didn't know you could get more than one hard drive in a laptop ... was thinking external in case I lose the laptop I don't also lose all my client info

Consider the size of a laptop and the size of an external hard drive... which are you more likely to lose? laugh

bourbon: My 500GB runs off USB power... if you go TB, you'll need mains power to run it... not ideal if you're using it on the move.

Shell225: Blonde,

I dont know much about computers. I have a laptop. I have an external storage thingie where I save all my clients bookkeeping accounts. That way I back up onto the internal harddrive and also on my external one, so if there is ever a problem I wont loose information.

It also holds all my photos and stuff like that so I dont use too much space on the laptop.

Hope that helps a little.

how big is your hard drive on the lappy and how big is the external drive shell belle?

takingariskagain: Blonde...A good idea to check out Choice magazines website... I think off the top of my head its choice.com.au ... they basically do all the research for you in most cases.. I checked it out when buying a digital camera and came away with a much more suitable camera for my needs than what I thought originally.

It costs nothing to have a look.

Cheers
TARA

thanks tara.. I'll check it out grin

Brought a Toshiba A200 a year ago with Vista OS and I like it. However a lot of the software it came bundled with was never made for Vista.
Windows update has just forced removal of IE 7 and replaced it with IE8. Windows update then re-installed the netframwork and again installed SP1. Quite a messy couple of weeks before that was sorted.

During the process i stuffed up the bootup by trailing backup boot management software Paragon and True Image Home boot managers. Tried twice and never again, on both occasions ended formatting computers hard drive...errr
However having a 750 gig Seagate external drive, three days ago I shelled out MONEY for an upgrade of the otherwise ok and free downloaded Seagate Disk Wizard software, which only works if it can detect a Seagate product on your computer, however the free software didn't allow the making of an image of only part of your computers hard drive, there Acronis upgrade-product (money) "True Image Home" upgrades the Seagate Image making software, (there is of course also file backup software (not image) which you get with your External HD) however True Image makes an excellent job of creating whole or part image of any part of your computer. Including the hidden Toshiba partition.
So probably you might like to give thought to that to
best wishes u all

I am running vista on mine and i don't know what all the worry is about. I haven't had a problem with it and it seems to operate very similar to XP except thet have dropped the 'my' off the front of everything, eg, 'my documents' is now just 'documents','my computer' is 'computer', etc. The graphics are very clear and it is easy to use. The biggest problem I have had is getting used to the touchpad instead of the mouse, but i am pretty used to it now. I was also warned about vista but when I asked at the computer store they said what I just confirmed and said it is the way forward so i might as well go with it so i did and i don't regret it. cool

Vista had major software compatibility issues and there was a lack of drivers for pre-vista hardware. I'm sure they've sorted a lot of that out now, but I'd wait for Windows 7... I've got the Windows 7 alpha release and I'm guessing the beta release will be out towards the end of the year.

Even if you get Windows 7 when it is released... don't throw your XP away. wink
