Fallingman: You obviously don't know many of them do you? I suggest you find a few of these "wasters" and tell them that to their faces!

Go on then tell me!!! Put up your face and tell me to mine!!!

Or go to any member of staff in your local Social Welfare Office, or Any nurse in any A&E in any hospital,
or any Prison Officer in any Prison,
or any teacher in any school who is trying to teach 10 different nationalities.

Go on. Try your luck. Tell them you don't believe they deserve their wages. Let me know how you get on!!

Losty: So what exactly do you propose that he do about it, then? Lower taxes? Raise taxes? Cut services to the general public? Cut social welfare payments and entitlements and eligibility for same? Increase services and State spending? Increase State borrowing and Bond issuing in the short term? Decrease State Wages, increase them?

Have you personally got any decent suggestions that may help the country return to a sound footing?

Thanks Wexford lady and Crazylegs.
Contrary to what the public perception is on public servants, we do work and we work hard at that.
The government have enacted legislation, put burdens on public bodies/hse etc then they go and cut budgets so they bail out the banks/property developers and expect the public servants to deliver on these commitments, the public only know what the state media choose to tell them, they dont know the reality of the situation.

shakademus1: I don't think Losty was picking on anyone actually, just stating the facts...

Poor public sector employees are actually having to do some work for once in their lives, my heart bleeds for them....

Just to clarify, my rant is targeted at clerical/administrative staff in the first instance - I don't dispute the fact that doctors/nurses/emergency staff etc work damn hard for a living.

It's the clowns stuck in offices that my ire is aimed at very mad

Social welfare staff?? give me a break! it's the first time since the recession of the late 80's that they have had to do some work...and they are useless in my opinion.

There are a few like that in all areas of work (private and public) that are inefficient but on a whole there are diligent hardworkers who earn their pay.
You've also got to realise there are countless procedures that have to be gone through and the staff find them as tedious as the customer does!

Actually it's not. While things were supposedly good..there were new schemes and changes brought in. There has always been more than enough work for twice the staff.

Just because you may not have needed them doesn't mean they were not up to their eyes. There is a hell of a lot of work in the Department that you obviously know nothing about.

But you were still out the door at 5.30 or 6 every day were you? you see I don't class that as hard work - imo hard work is a 70/80 hour week

Yes Wexlady he doesn't have a clue what actually goes on in the public sector... the workloads, the procedures, and now the lack of budgets to implement the workcrying
