I think during the Celtic Tiger years Ireland was pushed forward at a pace it wasn't ready for. Women adopted a "Girl Power" attitude in the workplace but kept a parochial attitude when it came to their personal lives.
I think a lot of it comes down to a fear of being judged and worrying about other's perception of us. As much as we like to come across as laid back Irish we're in reality a very uptight nation....IMO

Yes. Its understandable though, dont you think? Catholicism ruled with a heavy hand for a very long time in our country.

It is to a certain extent. We might not know our neighbours any more but we're still a race of curtain twitchers. The small town attitude will exist as long as we allow it to. It's up to each individual to progress at a pace they're comfortable with though not because they feel they have to
