gillyloves69: good because i want to know what the fasination is from somebody that knows the game !
alright you spend spend a lot of time doing this
and yes i know that you've got to gain the most runs to win the game
but i can;t see where the excitement is playing or watching the game
I grew up watching cricket in the 70s & into the 80s when it was more of the characters who played the game than the actual game.
The fascination for me & even when I played was the sheer skill of being able to both bat & bowl and of course field. To face someone who can bolw at 140kmh is quite scary.
I hated fielding especially on days over 40 degrees celcius.
I havent played now for about 15 years, I dont watch a lot of cricket , I watch the Ashes series against England and tests against India & West Indies , the one day and 20/20 matches dont really appeal to me but I can understand why a lot of people love it due to it being shorter period of time to play so its quicker.
to win in say a test match you have to bolw the opposition out twice & keep them under your score.
I personally feel cricket is similar to baseball either you like it or you dont, but both have loyal & devoted fans who are so passionate about it

what do you american football ?
I love american football, huge fan of the dallas cowboys , find it incredible to watch, the tactics & different team styles of play . I trialled with an american football team competition in Adelaide in 1985, I couldnt believe the level of training .
I also adore English football/soccer I am a lifelong fan of bolton wanderers in the english premier league.
and of course I hate the nba because they are better at basketball than I ever was , no seriously Its a great love of mine basketball.
sport is one of those amazing creations of humans & team sports are the ultimate, we all have our favourite teams in different sporting codes & literally follow them religiously, and we go through all the emotions, sheer exstasy when they win & literally depression if they lose.

Not quite sure there really could ever be a "greatest australian" ever because I'm sure that many have contributed to their society in so many great ways that they are really uncomparable.
