While in broadcasting I learned that even southern radio stations don't want DJs with southern accents (women's voices are also more desireable-fyi). Had to lose any kind of accent at ALL. Then when I went overseas, I was told that I didn't "talk like an American". I laughed out loud. "so just exactly what do you THINK an American sounds like?"
As far as kids go, just let them be around the other kids. Either they will stop and go with the flow, or they will be very popular for starting a whole new trend of "kiddie slang" LOL I sure wouldn't worry too much.
