Hey guys... I have a good friend who has recently been diagnosed with Burning Mouth Syndrome. I had never heard of it until I talked to him about it but apparently there is no known cure. Medicos can only treat the symptoms to help ease the pain.

I told my friend that I would look into alternative therapies seeing how all the drugs and other pharmaceutical remedies havent really done much to help him. I am planning on asking my aromatherapy teacher next Tuesday if there are any essential oils that might be of benefit to him.

Has anyone else heard of this? and if so.. do you have any advice or suggestions on how to ease the symptoms or if any research has been done that demonstrates certain treatments that may work effectively?

I have experience a fairly mild version of this... caused by a bad mix of several medications that I was taking.

For me the only way to get relief was to change the mix until the one causing it was isolated, and then ommitted.

It occurs for many different reasons, and even the symptoms can be quite varied. Mine was painful, but more the dry mouth version...

Hope all goes well for your friend.

thanks boo,. I hope it goes well for him too.. and yeah thats what he said .. there are many reasons why and also just as many unknown reasons as to what causes it.

he doesnt take meds so his isnt caused by that.. he has had all the relevent tests done etc.. and they are still none the wiser as to what caused it in his case..

dunno

Mine was hormonal related... Bad mix of the Pil, anti anxiety etc... (just after break up with ex)

I still get symptoms occaisionally, but nothing like it was at its worst.

when I was having chemo, I used to have a lot of trouble with my mouth, NOT the same I know. What I found was a really soft baby toothbrush helps when you are in alot of pain and trying to clean your teeth. I also used to use numbing mouthwashes to ease pain as well.

Just thinking it may help to give him a bit of relief.comfort

Never heard of it until my sisters friends Nana got bms shes had it for quite some time..Her symptoms started when going through her menopausal stage..shes tried several medication but nothing seems to take the edge off the pain..The only pain relief she seems to be getting is from b stress vitamins and a steroid mouth wash..
