Gaddafi: deal done over IRA victims

Victims of IRA terrorism were given fresh hope of compensation from the Libyan government today after Colonel Gaddafi indicated that a deal had been struck with Britain.

In a rare interview, Libya’s leader Muammar al-Gaddafi said that “an agreement or a legal agreement” had been concluded between his country and the British government — boosting hopes of official recognition for Libya’s role in arming the IRA at the height of the Troubles

.....

That's the head line in tonights Belfast Telegraph...

Folks what about the British Goverment paying too...? They (in your name) caused havoc...

But the Q...Wasn't about religious numnuts or Americans or what happened 400yrs ago......

If Libya can me held accountable for supplying the PIRA with arms to wage a 'terrorist 'campagian...Then surely by the same rule the British goveerment should be held accountable for supplying Loyalist para-militaries....

Are you ready.....try this for size and tell me who was worse Libya or Britain for the killings.....I hold the two of them equaly guilty....

"In the six years before the arrival of the South African weapons, from January 1982 to December 1987 loyalist murder gangs killed 71 people. In the six years following, from January 1988 to 1 September 1994, loyalist killed 229 people.

Brian Nelson

Allegations of Collusion between British forces and Loyalist Paramilitaries:

Collusion between serving British soldiers in the UDR and loyalist paramilitaries has resulted in the thefts of hundreds of British army weapons over the same period. Research by the Irish News in 1985 showed that up to that point almost 600 rifles and pistols were thus secured by loyalists. As is now proven such a weapon was used in the murder of human rights lawyer Pat Finucane.

British Military intelligence had two years notice of the South African arms shipment. That their agent, Brian Nelson, describes in his prison journal how he gave all the details to military intelligence including the method he claims was used to smuggle in the guns. In the same journal Nelson says that in 1987 military intelligence told him they had decided to allow the first shipment into the country untouched to avoid suspicions about their agent.

British Intelligence whistleblower speaks out

Lifting the lid on the dirty war

On one thing the family of Pat Finucane and the British Intelligence Service are united: the former FRU soldier known as Martin Ingram has enough information to blow the lid on the dirty war. Indeed, so devastating is the information he possesses that the British Government has served gagging orders on the Sunday People and Sunday Times to prevent them reporting on his disclosure

If Libya pays out, then why shouldn’t the British?

That's the headline from yesterday's Sunday Business Post ....

Here's a few paragraph's...

As a legal precedent, it is now being considered by lawyers for some of the victims’ groups. Interestingly, relatives of the victims of those killed by UDA operative and informer Brian Nelson believe they may be in a position to launch a significant legal claim against the British government.

As was subsequently accepted at his trial, Nelson was run by British intelligence within the UDA. On their behalf, he imported a large consignment of weapons from South Africa which were eventually involved in the killing of large numbers of people, particularly in a bloody series of sectarian killings in north Belfast. Nelson’s controller gave evidence at the trial.

Already, extensive legal investigation has been undertaken by the Barron report and the McEntee inquiry, and there are few today who do not accept that these acts were sanctioned by British Intelligence. If this is the case, have not the victims the same moral claim for compensation as those now looking towards Tripoli?

It’s quite simple. If Libya is facing up internationally to its responsibilities, is it not also time that Britain does as well?
