hi i teach and organise events for kids with disabilities and i was wondering do you think special need children and disadvantaged children get the help and support they need at school ide love to hear people views .

my eldest soon has special needs ,while he was in school he got alot of help ,plus his school had after school programme at least once a week .wave

Hi SBN. I have worked in one capacity or another with kids with special needs for 8 years. In my experience and from talking to carers etc, the care they get in facilities is great once they are in place. It is the funding arrangements where the issue is.

yh my eldest is the same i think you get alot more help over here and his teachers and helper are brilliant some people conplain but i think they get alot of help

the fund raising is an issue a group of us help raise funds for are local group but the money raised soon runs out all of the people and myself volunter and are qualified and trained .

i agree with you there as my son is now in an independant living house with 4 lads ,they arrange activities that dont cost too much as they dont always have the funds .there is a inhouse club that they all go to ,they play football and bowls which they all love.

Plans for an All-Ireland autism center being dropped because of the recession. Yet we have money to pay for the wages in the Seanad, limousine transport........banana republic.

i dont think they do as lot of places dont have the funding .

at least in special needs schools they pick up on the problems the kids may have which is more than i can say about mainstream schools .as my youngest who just did his leaving was diagnosed with dysleixia two weeks before his exams/

so true we volunter and geting donations is impossible and doesnt last long at all but like you said its the recession

i agree you dont see the high powered people affected with there big fat wallets if they had to live like normal people and pay there own way instead of having everything handed to them they might see things in a diffrent light

no, i honestly think special needs is bottom of the list stuff for the irish government which is disgraceful..
