yes u need it for box office... but not for the tv itself.. i have to plug in a wire and then just type in my password.. and it automatically logs you in and its charged to your monthly account..

Yeah i was just about to say that. You don't need it for normal viewing although they do monitor if you have it connected to a phoneline or not and will send you out letters telling you they will have to charge you more if you don't keep it connected. At least thats what they did to me anyway last year.

Thet done the same to me last yr when i got it in, but my mate just got his in before Xmas, and the engineer told him that you dont need it anymore.................only for box office, games, and multiroom!!

I have it for a year and not been plugged in - it slows down my broadband if i do so thinking if i don;t need it i'll cancel and get mobile broadband - never used box office tho

No all u do is ring up they will put the movies on for ya , i dont have a phone line and all i do is ring for box office

Yeah thats true except they recommend that you always have it connected to a phoneline. I think it could be to try and tempt you to spend more money on box office, games etc.
