leonardo5: A fellow countryman of mine went to visit Miami; it was his first time in an English-speaking country. He was enjoying the fine (lovely) beaches and decided to go into the sea. Shortly after he entered he noticed that he was in deep trouble. He had moved to far out from the coast and the riptide was carrying him out to sea. He realized that he needed help and wanted to alert the watchers. but he recalled that it was an english-speaking country and then he wracks his brain; it was absolutely imperative that he makes them understand and has to do it in English that he had learned in high school. Then he started to crying out: "The book is on the desk...the teacher is front to the pupils!"
That was a very poor joke! It took 2 minutes to read and I want that 2 minutes back!
In response to: A fellow countryman of mine went to visit Miami; it was his first time in an English-speaking country.
I got it, and a good one at that. The only part of the joke that didn't make sense to me was the reference to an english speaking country and Miami in the same sentence.....LOL.....
refers to the old method of teaching English language in countries that do not have much knowledge of it ... in Brazil it is a joke to say ´´the book is on the table``, that means that the teachers don`t know the language and method to teach it as well
