the worst part about these scammers and trust me she would have eventually asked you for money, is they do not care about the people on the sites that truly do want a honest and sincere relationship.

Sorry this happened to you too.
I'm just curious, being fairly new to this site also...if someone manages to put in their profile that their from (for example) California and they're actually from South Africa - if you filter out South African contacts will it still come through?

It shouldn't come thru if they are actually from S. Africa. I think it's all based on IP
The scammers are out for nothing more than parting someone from their money. Happens to women as well as men. Read the scam warnings and learn to spot the signs. Most scammers are pretty obvious. And you'll find that a lot of those gorgeous women you're talking to who end up living elsewhere, are actually men.
Innocent, trusting, gullible people (of both genders) have made being a scammer a lucrative profession. It's worth a dozen or two rejections when they find just one they can soak for a couple hundred dollars. I knew a man who got seriously stupid and lost $11,000 before he wised up. If someone contacts you who has a profile that sounds too good to be true, they are most likely a scammer.
Once you learn to spot the signs, scammers are a blast to play head games with. They're not as smart as they want you to think they are.
When this happen to me I was so angry but it made me stronger and made me not so quick to give my feelings to someone and not so trusting of the first few emails I may get that confess love give yourself time when dealing with the Internet everyone is not as they seem at first time will bring out the real person in TIME

Like she said. There are sites where you can learn a lot about how to spot scammers. I played a scammer for several months until I had a name and address in Nigeria. I sent all info to Yahoo and the FBI. This story is somewhere here in the forums

The really good scammers will wait 2-3 months before asking for money. These are the real pros
