I have known a few blokes who knitted in my time it became quite common to see some of the lads relieving the boredom of watching and tracking on a Radar tube with Knitting and even Needlework....In the past hard working Miners in the UK knitted as a source of extra income.
I wish it was...Too many old faces and friends gone or not posting as they used to .......Well a lot of us did warn about the folk who posted to cause trouble.....Shame it was fun a while back....
Read the title of the thread Felix....It is in no way a go at the USA, far from it. It is someone who does not understand the European political system thinking that Europe has to solve what is actually a UN problem, Russia and China vetoed the UN suggestions. Europe is not and has never had a vote as an entity in the UN....The big 5 have the veto and Russia and China chose to use theirs, so how does that make it a European problem ???
It is in fact a Syrian problem and it is their own country. What right doe Europe have to interfere ?
None. Unless it is on humanitarian grounds to ease the suffering of the Syrians....But who do they side with ? The numerous different rebel factions?? The government ??? Or neither ?
Syria is of course an Arab nation and member of the Arab league. So why can't for once the Arabs sort out their own ???
So many different factions are fighting and the Arab league is of course made up of all of these factions. So which one would they support???
Time the Arabs sorted out their own political problems and stopped relying on the UN/USA/UK and others to do it for them...Even when we do help we always become the bad guys as there is always a faction be it Sunni,Shi-ite or any other group who gets its nose put out of joint .....Time we let the Arabs sort themselves out....We should just refuse to arm any faction and close the borders and let Syria sort itself out...Unless of course the Arab League stopped infighting and took control....No chance of that.
It costs the west so many lives and so much money sorting out Arab/Islamic nonesense for the past 50 years..
Time they looked at sorting out their own problems.
Folk from every country in the world are just the same as me.you and everybody else. It is just the Polititaians.Fundamentlists,Xenophics and idoits that do not realise this.

Can't see your problem. As you tried to put the blame on Europe for a Syrian problem ...This fast became a world problem and the UN could not agree due to the attitude of Russia and China. You the ask what Europs is going to do aout Russia and China...It is clear the world in the form of the UN has to deal with the problem.
My solution was to get the Arabs do deal with it themselves..They have the power and the hardware. But not of course the organisation and experience of the West...So why not an Arab force UN led...? Then the Russians and Chinese objection is moot.
I t seems clear you want Europe to carry the blame for the Russain and Chinese attitude...Tht is wrong the Russians and Chinese do not want anyone causing a power vacuum in Syria that they believe the USA will use to advance their status in the area...Pretty clear and it could be negated if we let the Arabs through the Turks police themselves.
Nope you are pushing the Idea of the problem being Europes....Syria is not and never has been in Europe...It is and always will be a UN problem...And folk are telling you why...That is clearly on the point of the thread...
Like I keep saying and you keep ignoring it (as it does not suit your argument) Syria really is a world problem. But, firstly it is an Arab one and they could by using the power of Turkey solve it. Without the need for the West or the UN.....
It was a joint effort in WWII never hid that fact...But it was not and never was the USA liberating Britain....

By the way it is not Europes problem it is a world problen hence the UN involvement....The fact Russia and Chin says NO is a problem for the whole world. But if the Turks did the job with the help of the Arab League then the UN would not need to be involved...End of problem.

The TAF consists of three main branches. According to the IISS in 2010, it had an active manpower of around 510,000 personnel. In addition it was estimated that there were 378,700 reserve personnel and 152,200 paramilitary personnel for a combined component strength of around 1,041,900 personnel.
However in November 2011, it was announced by the Turkish General Staff that active manpower was actually 666,576 active personnel.
Plenty of power there..Even the threat of them moving in would make Assad think again.
Russia and the USA are playing the middle east like a game of chess only they use countries as allies and often pawns....If it was not for the OIL in that area then neither would give a monkeys....It is time the Arab nations policed themselves....But that will never happen as each state is ruled by different Factions and also different factions and sects of the Islamic religion....Time to step back and let them ruin their own Nations,lifes and future...I for one am fed up getting blamed for all the ills of the region....Help them we are wrong for interfering don't help we are wrong as well..
So I say let them get on with it as we then do not lose any lives of troops and do not have to pay billions to provide the troops etc.
And as for the USA in WWII it was not until the Japanese attacked you that you actually entered the war....And as you stated in earlier posts you made a lot of money from the UK on the "LEASE LEND"
Old WWI ships and out of date weaponry...We had to buy it as we needed it....Some real friendship...
Turkey borders Syria and it has a massive standing army why can't they as a concerned Near neighbour sort it out...

If the Arabs cannot sort it out then Syria is on it's own due to the UN standoff.....Europe is tied the same way to the UN convention and cannot like the USA do anything without the Russian and Chinese agreement....But the Ara league could and Tirkey has the Manpower on its own.
If the UN.USA or even Europe gets involved as we all have it then becomes our fault as it has in Libya,Iraq,Afghanistan,Sudan,Palestine and so many other places...It is a Syrian problem an Arab problem and an Islamic problem as they keep telling us.
If Syria breaks into a total Civil War then why shold we ?

We did that in some of the countries listed above and all we get is grief and nonsense from folk screaming and ranting about the "Wests interfearance"
It is time these nations sorted their own problems out. The "Arab League " has enough weapons and manpower to sort out any Arabic nation without any recourse to ask for our help...

Time to let the Arabs etc make their own way...Ban and stop all arms exports to all the warring nations and then it will stop...But greed and self interest will always ensure war happens.
Yep that is the way it is in the European Parliament...But many vote alon "party " not country lines...Left and right wing, centre and of course Communists....Yep we still have them....So it is a lot more confused.
But at this time a lot of folk are wary of the Franco/German drive to Federalism...Even more wary of the German influence...
