I have known a few blokes who knitted in my time it became quite common to see some of the lads relieving the boredom of watching and tracking on a Radar tube with Knitting and even Needlework....In the past hard working Miners in the UK knitted as a source of extra income.

it's not a huge leap from mending nets/ropes, to darning/knitting...
i've seen a few old timers knitting. but haven't seen it in a long time.

I would say "hey that is so cool, what are you making? and how do you do that? Dont see a lot of men knitting ,how did you get turn on to this hobbie that I see most women doing ?
