I have been wondering about this for awhile now I have been thinking it may be a drive by wire throttle issue for some time. (Never really was convinced a floormat issue would be that widespread across vehicles) Now the big recall and only on toyotas (not lexus) and the blame placed on the part manufacturer. I am still not totally convinced. Now don't get me wrong I don't think Toyota is doing anything that any other company wouldn't do. It is damage control time.
The reason I am still suspicious is that what orginally made me think actual problem other than driver error was a report on the evening news here in Minnesota. It was a twin cities man who owned a Lexus who described having an issue with unintended acceleration like the one in California. The thing that struck me was how he said that he put his foot under the pedal and lifted up on it and the vehicle kept accelerating. As this person gave his whole recount you could tell he stayed calm throught the whole ordeal and thought things through. He also did not have an accident he slowed his vehicle with the brakes got to the shoulder and shut it off.
Again the reason I am asking is Toyota still claims that it is the physical pedal sticking that is causing the issue. I personally feel it is an electronics/controller issue. They also say that only the US cars with the US supplied parts are having issues do to wear causing the pedal to become stuck in place. But the Lexus SUV this twin cities man was driving was not part of the recall and I assume may have the Japanese built Denso pedal. Not sure haven't been able to find out.
So that brings me to here... I thought to myself what better way to find out than post it on the C.S. international forums filled with people from multiple countries and multiple stages of life so my question is. Have any of you outside the U.S. heard of similar events happening to vehicles outside of the U.S. built with pedals not made by the U.S. supplier? I do not want a flame war of pro Toyota anti Toyota just any info anyone has heard. Thanks for taking the time to read this and any info you have please state where it happened and when if you know. Also include country and vehicle that it happened in
