Angelo9: I completely agree it's only good manners to email first rather than assuming anyone will want to chat to a complete stranger.
The fact that you have NO IDEA who is IM ing you is a huge drawback.
Having said that, with the right person, IM is great

Totally agree..

It is good manner's to ask first.. this in itself shows good character and what is lost with sending a mail?
This is a great opener and opportunity to introduce yourself properly..

In response to: It is so frustrating most of the members IM is either switched off or blocked because of address, region.
It makes me feel like giving up my membership here. After all, when love meet loves, there's no fonteirs
Maybe it would be a good idea to be able to accept or ignore an IM.Instead of setting thsat in the profile settings.

Also, when am IM comes in,could you guys make it pop up. When you you have many windows open you are more then once too late to answer it.Thanks for looking into this

Well...this is a matter of personal choice. It all depends on the individual. Sometimes e-mails are an excellent way of communication with people who want and enjoy writing in English. However, at some point IMs are necessary because one can better feel the person they are chatting with. Its kinda you are chatting with a person face to face. However there are a lot of people who are ill-intentioned and pretty rude when they chat with others. So one better avoids starting a communication on the chat room.

Steve5721: So, thanks for the enlarged message, not all of us are blind!

Why do you specifically need the IM for? Email works does it not?

Thank you Steve. Why this bold MINOTAUR? Like Steve said we are not all visually impaired. This is shouting. There are other ways of communicating MINOTAUR, it's NOT only by IM and why do you want to IM???????????? YOU need to respect the other person's wishes, they DO NOT want IM and that's the way it is going to be, end of story.

My profile states that my IM is off. However, I still get IM requests. What does that tell you? It tells me that a lot of men on here don't even bother reading my profile, but just look at my pics. Why then even bother? One of the first IMs I got on here was a guy asking me to help him get off. Now you tell me if I have reasons to turn my IM off.

jeepers: I have mine turned off because when someone sends me an IM request, it just opens on its own, I have no choice in accepting or rejecting.
I think it is good manners to ask before IM anyway.

The first thing I did when I came to this site was to make sure the IM function was turned off.

You did the right thing. Mine is off too and I state in my profile. I also state that I wish to be contacted by email so if you don't do that but attempt to IM me, I take it that you chose to ignore my wishes and didn't read my profile. I want nothing to do with you.
