(£184.28 + materials). As per the conditions of tender all tendees had to be interviewed and when asked how on earth they could contrive to build a tunnel under the Tyne for £184.28 Mick Murphy replied "My brother Patrick will start at South Shields and I will start at North Shields and we will meet in the middle, subject of course to you supplying the materials" Deciding to humour them, the interviewing officer asked, "And what happens if you miss each other?" Mick thought for a minute and then answered "You get two for the price of one!"
