Funny, I used to be on PoF, and the odd other site too. And met the same people here again 
As to pictures, I don't mind putting mine up. Nobody I know personally ever said anything about it. And I know umpteen people in my area
I feel a bit worried when somebody without a picture contacts me, I confess. Makes me feel like they got something to hide. I don't make a secret out of being single and looking. And since I'm not an avid pub-goer, chances are very small that I would be recognised, I think.
But, as mentioned before, everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
