It was named after the historic kingdom and province of Mide (meaning "middle"), and is today also known by the nickname "The Royal County" due to its history as seat of the ancient High Kings of Ireland

22 hours ago : Tara

In that gentle place
that hangs on the edge of memory
I hear a harp,
playing out a melody.
souls and spirits stir
Sounds resonating
heard by tender hearts
In a tongue long forgotten
Yet always remembered,
in the core of the belly.
Calling us back
to who we are.
A noble race, a celtic tribe.
Our mark on Mother Earth,
in wood and string and stone.
Hiddden memories,
Ancient melodies,
Tara,
Calling us home.

choir....................
I've travelled many counties in Ireland
but there's still one I'm longing to see
it has been a part of my homeland
and it brings back fond memories to me
where I wandered alone in my childhood
reviewing the sights I once seen
as I walked through the parks and the forests
'round the beautiful county of Meath.

Oh, beautiful Meath, you've got all that I need,
your rivers they flow with delight
your fields are so green, there's plains to be seen
and your towns are so gay and so bright
]fishing down on the Boyne, I remember the time
you would think it was all just a dream
and wherever you roam, there's no place like home
and the beautiful county of Meath.

I've seen Eire's beautiful castles
and it's history I've learned so well
I've read of the high kings of Tara
and the wonderful Book of Kells
where the slain still remember St. Patrick
he lit a fire for the people to see
'ere he brought love and kindness to Ireland
and the beautiful County of Meath.

It only seems a short while ago that I was looking forward to a leinster final in croke park with kildare and dublin battling it out on the pitch, louth and meath had to go and ruin my summer highlight but deservedly so, I was impressed by Keenan and White for louth and some great attacking football from the wee county and surprised at Meaths win against the dubs, reckon its going to be one hell of a close game with louth to be crowned champions of leinster,, be great to see them win it after all these years and best of luck on the day.
