adoreable: Mr Nally was broken into severaly times by the ward family, and was driven to what he did, the only crime was that he did any jail time at all. Even more appalling is that the ward family are taking a civil action against Mr Nally, obviously if someone breaks into your home and if you injure them in protecting youself they should not be allowed to sue you.

Good riddance to the filthy pikey Ward as far as I'm concerned.

Yes but you are ignoring the fact that it stopped being self defence when he followed him down the lane.

I don't dispute that Ward was a scumbag and I don't dispute that in the irrational thought process Nally was exercising that day that he believed he had no alternative, but you can't run a legal system that way.

scriobhneoir: Well he was the victim of a crime in which he ended up dead, whether he was a nice guy or not doesn't alter that.

I think the fact you focus on his membership of the travelling community rather than him being a serial burglar says a lot.

Ward was a victim of a crime, but the crime resulted from his own criminal intentions. He set out that day to do wrong, Nally did not.
Nally committed his crime in the heat of the moment, Ward's involved planning.
You can't take the law into your own hands but I don't think that Nally should have spent a day in jail.

Nor do I. But he should have been convicted.
