So, it sounds like I should switch over to SCA. Hmm. So you're saying, "Yee-haw," in relation to Sca events. Gee wiz, I can't remember the last time the Ren Faire made me say, "Yeeee-haw!" The only thing with both is that people used to nit pick my sewing maniacally because I didn't follow the rules. As soon as I finally dragged the costume rules out of them, it turned into a gripe fest about how the rennies didn't want to wear what they were told to, and did everything they could do to circumvent the costume rules. It also turned into how the people in the best cliques got to break all the rules but the "underlings" were stuck with the rules. dancing

We have a SCA here known as "Shire of Blackwater Keep.

They have a plot of land outside of town and have tents (medieval, dress in costumes, joust, etc. I've seen them in 80 degree weather in full regalia fighting with broadswords in the park near me. Been out to the Keep.....very interesting to watch. I think that some stay there for the weekends, week or maybe until the weather turns cold. Looks like great fun.

Also have (or had) a society at the college...everyone had a position in it....(lady, lord, etc) dressed in the clothing of the period and spoke the language of that period....

very interesting, I think.

I made the elf suit from scratch from fake suede bedsheets and a cream colored top sheet and a wooly fake fur coat. people went gaga over it at the fest. I think the color and the design and the camera added weight to my appearance, but I wanna show it off anyway. I have another more flattering female costume that's similar but I plan to give it to a lady friend. The same park that does Fairy Fest also does Viking Heritage stuff and I'm thinking of going in this suit. I wanna get some friends in on it too. There was a huge guy in a Viking suit yesterday. Another thing about that fest: it reminded me of the old movie "The Wicker Man." There were about five or six green men and a few women in "green Man" masks running around. They had a maypole on the premises. I didn't see it in use. It may be part of the Viking Fair.

I just got back from a concert called the Field Trip Festival. Anyone heard of it? It's a Grateful Dead tribute traveling concert with camping and vending booths. It's like a Ren Faire except they drop the pretension of historical reenactment and just wear hippie clothes and sell hippie stuff instead. The coolest part is that two separate groups brought tipis. There was a native looking tipi and one that looked like a giant tent - bug screen. I never knew people could buy tipis. Ebay sells tipis, yurts and all kinds of gazebos. Neato. I knew a guy named Dave who had a yurt. He travels the ren faire circuit. He's a carney. Circus folk. Small hands, smell of cabbage, you know.
