A friend is the one who gets left out when we choose to start off a relationship but he or she os the one who waits patiently there in the background in case you may need them. And if it all goes wrong a friend will not be the one who says 'i told you so' but just gives you a hug, holds you tight and helps you to pick up the pieces when everyone else has left.

Totally agree,a friend also welcomes your new boy/girlfriend into existing social life,and encourages your new budding relationship.
