Maybe start saving money and vacation days for the trip... but don't quit your job/sell your parents' house/trade in your car yet.

Snowboarder11: well im actually finishing a long training course in 4 weeks, and i wanna travel/live somewhere new for a while. I have no ties in ireland!
Sounds good... the second part is what to expect. Some things do not work out exactly as envisaged... not everything is in our control... so be open and appreciative of the experience no matter how it goes, if that's possible

Well, incorporate her into your travels, BUT DO HAVE A BACKUP PLAN!! Very essential!
Keep your expectations FIRMLY focused on friendship until you have the chance to meet in person - but by all means, go if you can! As long as you approach things as a casual friendship with no pre-conceived notions...you both should walk away with a happy, positive memory. Enjoy the journey, but do it wisely.
If something more comes of it while you are there???
Snowboarder11: time is free! no loans/debts either so i might just go! and if it doesnt work out, its not the worst place to be stuck! thanks for advice :)
Oh to be young. Time is one's most valuable asset.

now that is a clever way of looking at it! thank you :)
Well, love will never happen if you dont take chances....By the sounds of it, your life is in a position where you can make this happen...do it for the adventure if nothing else...everyone should travel in life. Just be smart, wait to see if you fall in love WHEN you meet her. I would rather die with regrets, than die regretting never having tried things. I wish you luck

Well you know what they say..No expectations, no disappointments. It's so much easier to be friends than it is to negotiate your way through a long-distance relationship. This way, you get to meet a new friend, enjoy te trip of a lifetime, and maybe some day you can host her if she wants to come here.
