saoirse65: I rang my local chemist to get a price on a prescription for one months supply of tablets. They told me 50 euro.
I rang a chemist in Belleek(which is less than ten mins away) and the same tablets would cost me £8.52 which is about 9.70 in Euro. The generic brand would cost me £4 in Belleek, I dont know if they do generic brand locally, they never seem to offer them and I have asked Doctors about generic brands before and been fobbed off my them.
Thank God that I rarely ever have to use prescribed medication but if I do again I will most certainly be filling them in Northern Ireland.

Its awful, and what makes it worse we pay up to 50% more when buying presctiption drugs then those holding medical cards. I was really furious when I heard that one! We pay at least €50 to visit a gp and of course then the added cost of paying for presctiptions for the first time ever I was ill last year and spent a fortune on basic medical attention!
