I never respond to people based on their looks, but purely on what they're saying.
In some cases I've exchanged several pages of emails, before even looking at their profile, just because they had very interesting things to say.
And a lot of people are "faceless", but despite (or maybe because??) of that they've become good friends, even though I haven't got a clue what they look like. Looks are really not that important.
