Blues63: I don't want to call you anything. I'm just discussing a topic. I think the 'too hard basket' quote underestimates people at large. Most of us are insignificant and have little, or no effect on policy no matter how loud we may shout. On the whole people are resigned to the way things are, for a clean sweep through revolution and the like, only produces more of the same.

Merry Christmas Annie.

I never said the "too hard basket" as I have more faith in people than that.. I know you dont want to call me anything .. And I so appreciate your respectful input ..cheers

annie_nsw: You missed the point ttom and I should have been clearer so I apologise.. everything in politics isn't so black and white nor honest..as to his quote One of the more obvious interpretations is that the whole incident with its comparison to “Pearl Harbor” is exactly that: an inducement to war. It is now generally known that the United States was aware of Japan’s plans to attack Pearl Harbor well enough in advance to have taken preventive action.

We could have done....what GWB did in Iraq. Did a preemptive strike on Japan, and sunk their carriers in Japanese home waters. Are those kinds of preventive actions that you are talking about?

I find it very informative to know what is going on in other countries. Rather than remain ignorant to the rest of the world, learn about it.

And what goes on in one country can have a mighty big impact on another.

Konigsberg: Good morning Ghost!

I think we are talking about different issue

There is a WAR and there is FIGHT back to protect from invader.

You are right .. those who fight back just simply don't have choices but fight. And this is justified fight.

I am talking about invaiders wars .... those who were started by some ill, psycho minds.

Unlike the War on terror which was thrust on America, the Iraq invasion of Kuwait which ended when the US liberated Iraq.

Konigsberg: What happened to hard working Diplomatic corps around the Globe. Where are they when it comes to prevent ANY wars from the begining? Yes, it is in a human genome to fight since the Dawn of homo sapience. But I thought that our brain has evolved to have more brain cells to be able to live in Peace and be able to solve conflicts without killing each other.

This is actually the most peaceful time that mankind as a whole has ever lived in.

Konigsberg: And another and last I would like to say. In Ancient times .... Differently thinking parties were chosing a battlefield away from the village or Town walls .... and fought as Men. Nowdays nobody cares anymore if civilians are killed.

In days of old, the defenders would march out to meet the aggressor prior to them reaching the town walls or, either would pick a specific geographical feature which would enable them to better press their tactical advantage. A fortified city was a huge disadvantage to the attackers and, if the aggressor had enough forces and could sustain them for months or years, a huge disadvantage to the defenders.

Konigsberg: Victory by any cost? ... It is disgrace and downfall of homo sapiens

Civilian casualties are minimized as much as possible. If victory in the sense of defeating the military of the enemy was the only concern, complete and utter devastation is available but, as we know, has not been used since 1945.

Annie....some historical realism please. Pearl Harbor, 911, Bali, Madrid, Mumbia, London the list grows.....who was not playing by the rules?

The US just ratified START...at the sametime we are finding 4 hidden reactors in North Korea, The US will live to that agreement. Our military arsenal will decrease by 700 nuclear devices. We will allow Russian inspectors into our facilities for inspections.

You have to understand...that the US also has military treaty agreements....with Japan, South Korea, Tiawan, Australia, Phillipine and New Zealand....with NATO countries....the only way we keep those treaty agreements is with either a deployment of forces or nuclear abilities to respond to a attack.

That is security to these countries. Maybe not peace, but security.

Muslims Out of Australia! (as seen on )
Claim: Article compiles statements from Australian government officials about Sharia law and Muslim extremists.

MIXTURE OF CORRECT
AND INCORRECT ATTRIBUTIONS

Example: [Collected via e-mail, 2005]
CANBERRA AUSTRALIA: Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia, as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks. A day after a group of mainstream Muslim leaders pledged loyalty to Australia at a special meeting with Prime Minister John Howard, he and his ministers made it clear that extremists would face a crackdown.

Treasurer Peter Costello, seen as heir apparent to Howard, hinted that some radical clerics could be asked to leave the country if they did not accept that australia was a secular state and its laws were made by parliament. "If those are not your values, if you want a country which has Sharia law or a theocratic state, then Australia is not for you," he said on national television. "I'd be saying to clerics who are teaching that there are two laws governing people in Australia, one the Australian law and another the Islamic law, that is false.

If you can't agree with parliamentary law, independent courts, democracy, and would prefer Sharia law and have the opportunity to go to other country which practices it, perhaps, then, that's a better option," Costello said. Asked whether he meant radical clerics would be forced to leave, he said those with dual citizenship co possibly be asked to move to the other country.

Education Minister Brendan Nelson later told reporters that Muslims who did not want to accept local values should "clear off". "Basically, people who don't want to be Australians, and they don't want to live by Australian values and understand them, well then they can basically clear off," he said. Separately, Howard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying he supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques.
