Thanks for the idea. I admit I've looked at that but haven't gotton around to going for it. I think I'm just scared of the competition, especially when I look around at other people's work and see how much better it is than mine. I'm working on improving my photos but it takes time, and of course money to buy better equipment.

Yes I know what you mean but dont let that stop you entering - it all goes to building up your confidence. Incidentally, my daughter is " into" photography and her husband bought her a really expensive camera for Xmas but some of the best pictures she has taken were taken when she just happened to be out walking and spotted something and used her mobile phone!! roll eyes

I agree and I need to get my finger out and enter some comps don't I?

That's typical about your Daughter getting the best pics with her phone! Hehe. I used to think that the quality of the photo was more to do with being there at the right time than anything, but the more I've used my expensive camera the more I've changed my mind. I aim higher now you see and try to get particularly 'tricky' shots, and for those, you do need decent equipment. Have you seen the prices of some of the lenses though? It's all about the quality of the lens these days.

sure there is plenty of competition no matter what field you go into unless you have something that is totally unique there will always be others who are better, worse etc than you (i dont mean you in particular i mean anyone wanting to be self employed), but when it cones to something like art or creativity. that is were we can excell. i dont compare myself to the great writers as i would be sadly lacking but i know that some like my style. it would be the same with your photos, even david bailey had to start somewhere, you will find that you can bring something to them that others cannot, you will see things differently and there may be people who like your styke too...wave

Yeah I guess. I am good at taking photos, and am proud of some of my work and I've been doing it a while - But sometimes I see photos from pros and I can't believe how much better some of them are. I just need to keep on working at it really.

have you thoufgr id joining a photography club, they will give free help and advice and contructive critism if needed, they will also tell you the truth about how good they think you are and they will not just say it to be nice to you wave

Mixing with strangers is something I have a real problem with, but nevertheless I've looked for local clubs (it has to be local as I have no transport), but there is only one and several photos I've seen of them show them all to be at least 70 years old, probably more! I just wouldn't mix with them.

I don't really need my photos to be critisised anyway, as I know enough about it to know what's good and what isn't. I really just need to mix with people who are as interested in it as I am, and with whome I can swap ideas and tips.

im the same debs i wish it wud snow all the time. it might seem sad but when it snows and its dark i go out for a walk i love how quiet everything seems to go,you cant hear a thing apart from the crunching of your footsteps and the lights in the night look like they are blurred and glowing if i had a choice of living in sun or snow i would choose snow.

me too id go out and build a snowman now and then maybe do a few snow angels aswell. i love the snow that much that when i go on holiday i go to cananda the snow there is unlike anything you have ever seen before. while i was there i spent a lot of the time outside in the hot tub. it was weird being in minus 23 degrees weather and not being cold. getting back to motel wasnt very nice tho as i was just in shorts

My favourite day is saturday when i dont have to rush about getting the girls ready for school. But then on the other hand it means they are here all day to wreck the place, but dont all kids do that lol.
I love having them about it just brings life into the house and never a dull moment. Sunday counts too but then that makes it two days dosnt it ?.
