LadyBlackAdder: Although this is essentially true, it's very difficult to open up to someone you don't know very well in order to tell him or her your hopes/goals/aspirations, at least in the beginning. Hobbies/Interests need not be shared as long as each person can appreciate the others tastes in same. I have no interest in football, either soccer nor gaelic, but I think I would be able to appreciate someone's interest in them if I cared for them.

I never know what I am going to talk about until I meet the person then I usually go with the flow and talk about anything under the sun.....eventually I will strike a cord i.e will find something in common

If someone has no interests at all, it would be rather hard to find anything to chat about at all. I have a little interest in a lot of things, which is I think is rather common. We can often have a variety of common interests even if we aren't exactly obsessed with any of the same interests

I don't really have one, I am always interested in what people have to say I don't care what it is...I love conversation and I could talk all night long. I do find most people interesting.

I guess mostly it's about good communication skills - and if there's a topic in there that really stimulates - then that's a bonus!

yes, and I think if you are friendly, warm and relaxed the other person is inclined to relax also allowing for the spontaneous flow of conversation...also if you show an interest in the other person and in what they have to say they will grow in confidence and will actually begin to enjoy themselves and become less rigid and less boring...then you will usually find you have something in common to chat about albeit on a superficial casual level but conversation nonetheless.
