mnowsa: It is quite a remarkable effort that the CS has managed to attract so many people from so many different countries all over the world. And, in keeping with this noble effort, we also have tried our best to connect and relate ourselves to each other in common terms. we enquire about each other here, we argue and debate with each other...all of course in good faith and good intention. Now, i also understand that NOT everybody here is comfortable always with the rest of us in exchanging his/her views due to their pre-concieved prejudice or misconception(which is to be expected because we all are different). And this is exactly where, my curious mind like to know

how much have we really learned about the world and its citizens?
A little about different cultures.

But a great deal about human nature in general.

How much have we learnt that, we think, are facts, and how much of them are fiction/myth? How far have we actually gone and tried to seperate the facts from fiction and to get rid of our ill-concieved misconception?
"our ill-concieved misconception"?

LOL, mnowsa... I can't think of any that I had before joining CS - always look at the facts, not at preconceived notions...

Are we really happy with our views and opinions about our other fellow human beings who are different from us in so many aspects?
No, but it{the difference} has very little to do with cultural differences,

it's an interpersonal differences that make much greater impact.

Besides, you can't form your opinion about Country/religion/culture based on very-very few forum participants. It doesn't make sense.

If you do, you mustn't.

To conclude, i always tell myself that i am not ashamed of the fact that i don't know about things, but i certainly seem to have a problem if i don't have the least inclination or desire to learn.

i agree..but i also think that we can get rid of a lot of our misconceptions (which is the core theme of my thread) by interacting a bit more with each other right here on CS. Again, it is more about getting rid of misconception about other people's race, culture, background, lifestyles and etc..thumbs up cheers

Mnowsa its in human nature we will never understand each other, no matter how much we try to learn or walk in their shoes..

Everyone is different in their own ways eg...religion, culture, lifestyle and so on.. What may be norm for you will not be for others..cheering

If I have learned one thing residing on this planet it is this , The only thing diferent about us is language and customs . We are basicly all the same in our desires and needs . Despite the ones with political and/or religious agendas, there does not seem to be a signifacant difference in world populations. This forum and others like it only reinforce this belief .cswelcome

Laura, unfortunately i don't like to believe that i know a great deal in general about nature. in fact, i would be a bit hesitant to think like that for obvious reasons. Now, you have also mentioned about cultural differences and interpersonal differences. i am not necessarily saying that the differences would result only because of cultural differences. in fact, interpersonal differences could also be a factor here. But whatever it is, i would still like to believe that more interaction would minimize those sort of interpersonal differences as well. then again, these are my opinion and i could be wrong...cheers hug

yes...we are basically all the same in our desires and needs, and yet we are so much suspicious and intolerant about each other. I do understand that we can't rid this world completely of ignorance, prejudice, and misconception about each other, but we can certainly try to minimize it at least by having more interaction with each with open mindpeace cheers

mnowsa: thank you BB. i completely agree with u on difference of opinion, acceptance and tolerance. But my question is how far are we really willing to go learn a bit more each other if we are to believe that we don't know enough about each other

Example...i would wash a jumper that had a dirty mark on it and if i were speaking in slang then i would say that the jumper was clatty...or...the jumper was bogging...clatty and bogging are common words used by many Scots in certain parts of Scotland...not a big deal here..grin

I dont think its changed me at all. I have learned from this site and the different cultures. Ive picked up lots of great uk slang for example..."sussies" means suspenders. I do see a lot of cultural differences, But I also see a lot of cultural differences being resolved here. wine
