anniebaby: just wondering if anyone on here has any knowledge of gardening

between the snow and the dog my garden is in a mess
want to try and get it back to having grass but unfortunately its a housing estate and the top soil is crap and just covers a heep of stones and building crap plus wet along wit it

so how do i get grass back other than digging it up and re sowing help

You say there was a lawn growing there before so you have enough topsoil, problem is it compacted, you need to get a rotovator to break it all up when the ground is dry, Then rough rake the soil of heavy stones, Then fine rake to remove the smaller stones and create a good level, Heel the soil in and give it a light rake to smoothen it out and scatter lawn seed over the area and rake it in very lightly, job done
