Many years ago I traveled across the US by bus but to save on hotel costs traveled by night and slept on the bus and woke to a new city every day. That seemed like a good plan at the time but I regret not hardly having seen any of the country side and landscapes.
If and when there is next time I'm leaving out the cities and doing your mountains, lakes and National parks.

on the second thought you reminded me like some years ago i was going by bus from Messina to Villafranca (about 30 km) and we were only two on the bus: the driver and me...
at some point i saw him stoping the bus..in front of the bar...
he said: "i'm going to have my coffee, may i offer you one as well?" lol
...we went to the bar in two with the bus parked right in front of it

always wanted to do that but never had the chance. Have a ball.
I am moving myself in another week and a half. Going back to my home state to get married. all the way from Alaska to NC.
I will keep you in mind and wish you a wonderful and exciting but safe trip
