Sometimes I think these "stirrers " you speak of are secretly applauded
I worked in a place where a guy went off on one on boring wet Tuesday afternoons (just to alleviate the boredom) I liked him for it. Never any malice intended or taken.
I'm a big believer in saying something positive or say nothing at all.
On the other hand - all the 'drama queens' keep the threads mildly interesting.
It's very easy to see who's all talk and can't control their egos... and some have a very short fuse.
I guess some see themselves as the 'class clown' too
