Buying a new car?...

Many of you dont know when you buy a new car that the VRT you are paying is an ILLEGAL tax not sanctioned by the european union...
The Irish government has been fined by the EU on countless occasions for the infraction but continues to collect this ILLEGAL revenue stream because it is still profitable enough to do so...
While speaking with a friend in the new car sales business yesterday, he confirmed to me that a few years back a staggering 51% of the total take on new cars in Ireland was government revenue, divided into two particular tax types...
While I dont know the precise split i will research and get back...
This is plainly the stuff of bad dreams, but wait, theres more...
You can get a new car now for as little as 9995 euros on the road, however, thats only for around another week or so...
Dealers are desperatly trying to push for last minute sales and along with what appears to be another "gimmick" are dropping the dealer delivery and related charges, again, im not in posession of the exact figures, but i believe thats another 500 or so euros...THEY COULD HAVE DONE IT SOONER....
While having a new car is nice enough, its worth keeping in mind, your being milked at every turn...
Kinda makes me mad...but then again, I wouldn't buy a new car on account of depreciation...
But thats just me!....

think the only bit thats "illegal" is the short time given to register the car and pay the tax? Hasnt Ireland been granted a derrogation on vrt?

Good Morning sharmini...

Thanks for that information...
Having read and re-read you post, it does indeed raise questions of the legallity and weather or not the EU officials have indeed had a change of heart on this matter..
Quote from your reply...

EU tells Fine Gael MEP that public must be allowed seven days minimum to pay VRT...

My points of refferance are from inside the motor trade and the IDA report below listed...

Also, there is a small piece relating to the scale of charge in respect of VRT levies relative to vehicle engine capacities...

Thanks indeed for your input...
