Hi, wave haven't been there personally - but once read a book "Christ of the Himalayas" & it was so vivid, descriptive & enthrallinlg that I literally felt as if I were there.....
But then Rinpoche is not everybody's cuppa tea.

I don't know if CS has members there??? dunno
Sorry, not much help.

I was in Tibet with my ex in 2004. The transportation available to reach Lhasa from Chengdu was either by bus (took some days) or by plane. The railway construction was still in the progress. Our flight was cancelled several times due to bad weather and we were forced to wait two days in the airport and unable to go out because the departure could be announced at anytime.
Not to mention that our car accident in the middle of nowhere due to careless driver and we were lucky to find a public bus passed by and we arrived in Lhasa in late evening.

I believe today Tibet is different than 7 years ago. And if you have the opportunity to visit Tibet, please do! The view is magnificent, the temples are amazing, and the journey reaching Everest is unforgettable.
