SundanceWCork: Yes, I would be hoping you would not be dating your students anyway. What I meant was that teachers often treat grown ups they encounter in the same way they are used to treating their children. It's very common.

My students are adults so I hope I don't treat them like kids!! laugh Surely if that was the case the person in question would just say I was condescending and not scary?dunno What would you mean if you described a woman as scary?

Envy51: Do you like/mind/care being described as intimidating Lara..........?

I wouldn't like to think I intimidate anyone to be honest as to me it gives the impression of being aggressive and abusive. However I think it's interesting that often we don't see ourselves as others see us.

Laralou: These are not men I met online but men I met for the first time face-to-face (through other friends,at parties etc...) so there was no previous contact made.

So guess you are meeting the wrong men or moving in the wrong circles or you are simply one-scary-mother-f%£er

In response to: This one's for the guys.It has recently come to my attention that quite a few guys find me "scary" or "intimidating" when they first meet me.

It came as quite a surprise as I would consider myself a kind and friendly person. However when I ask them to explain what it is that they find so scary/intimidating, they seem reluctant to go into specifics (too afraid of me perhaps?? ).

So lads, what exactly do you mean when you describe a woman as scary? What are you afraid of exactly? Don't worry I won't track you down if you say something I don't agree with!! Would just be nice to have some specifics.

There's nothing scary about u it's just that the guys ur talking about r bums and scared and don't match up to ur intelligent level so they find excuses and that's one of the excuses u've been told.
It happens all the time they use intimidating and scary excuses so my advice is always try and work out the ones who can hold a good intelligent conversation and in so doing will also make u laff.
It's called "INFERIORITY COMPLEX" while u might as they say have "SUPERIORITY COMPLEX"...Superiority complex is all about confidence, ur klass and ur background as well.
Keep ur confidence up and don't succumb to any man's level, if they r not in ur level that's tough. Never stoop low for no one or u'll sell urself cheap..But learn to compromise..

That's a very subjective term. It depends on the guy who uses it. What would you mean if you describe a guy as a woosey gutless little girl? Ha ha

My, "case closed" referred to your acceptance of you being a scary-mother-so-and-so, and not me heading to the hills.

The most "scary" thing I have seen is your command of and usage of proper english. No text-speak, good grammar, scary how poor people miss the fundamentals.

All you need to do is drop the smileys/emoticons. Think you have the capacity to catch the moment without resorting to such.

You could be right.

Well, I once went out with an former Israeli Commando and a girl who put six bullets in the bed where she found her cheating boyfriend with another woman. And she wasn't aiming to miss, she was just drunk at the time. I didn't find those 'scary' but I know a lot of guys would have been running for their mammy. Then again, maybe I'm 'scary' too?

If a woman was too pushy, demanding and always confrontational and interrogating me on my thoughts and feelings I would find that tiring. I'm not saying you do that because I don't know you but some people do.

I've been told that more times than i care to remember... And the few that have been brave enough to explain it to me, have said that it's because i come across as a very strong, independent, intelligent woman (which, of course i am! wink ).

Interesting replies laugh

I have only met one woman in my life that was intimidating and she was a stalker. It carried on for 8 months and it was not nice to say the least. A real bunny boiler laugh
Are you a stalker tongue laugh

I honestly dont know why some men find you or women intimidating. From my experience I have known men who meet women that they think ae out of their league and they call them intimidating. Maybe its their own insecurities. A little bit of what GG said would apply IMO as some men can find independent and beautiful women intimidating.

Do you think this is why your single ?

Stalker? Me? Check outside your window!!tongue

It would seem Glengirl was right as none of the men has replied to the contrary. What a shame some men would find that intimidating.

scary woman? where? confused laugh

i reckon what would put a fella of an independently strong woman, is that the woman would take over nd tell the fella how to live his life and therefor loose his freedom as the dominant male he likes to think he is, personally i dont a problem with it now, but have admit in my younger years when i was less confidant to stand up for myself it would have intimidated me and prob made me walk away fairly swiftly dunno

also what would be a big factor is that most males of our age group (late 30's onwards) have been in long term relationships and are possibly afraid to get boxed in again by a strong minded woman, again personally i have done the complicated relationships etc and have no interest in going down that road again, and a strong minded woman is more likely to complicate a relationship by taking the lead roll rather than a equal partnership conversing
