I'd say browse the site, mail men you find interesting, and stay off the forum, it seems to be populated with people who are just here for posting and with no intention of meeting people. So try the other features of this great site.

Funny I've had the best connections from people I've met in the forums. Good luck to you!
I think as with anything, its about seeing this site as merely one option of connection and not the only avenue. Give yourself time, but if someone isn't interested - move on. Its all about deciding what you desire and going for it. If someone is interested you'll know for they generally don't waste your time and energy. If someone is leading you on - they are - so pay attention and cut your losses.
