I think maybe clothing has become a new "mask" to wear. We can give impressions, without actually being that person. Dress elegant, and shopkeepers treat you with respect. Dress sloppy, and wait while all the elegantly dressed get served first!

Personally I like to feel comfortable, well groomed, but comfortable. What I hate is when people go to absolutely no trouble to dress up for special occasions. Like wearing old jeans to a function... like a dinner dance, wedding, funeral, private dinner party, etc. Not that old jeans is a problem, but when topped with the same Tshirt you did the garden work in, it looks realy as though you got no respect for the person or people who went to the trouble of organising the function (funeral is respect for the family of deceased). And dressing nice for a function helps to liven the atmosphere, and makes the hosts feel you treating them with respect.

At the risk of boring you all to tears, I must tell you something that happened to me...... A sloppy dressed old lady came into my business in SA one morning, to open an account. I treated her with the same suspicion I treated all potential "run-away" customers. Only when she filled in the Account form did I recognise her name as ...... THE WEALTHIEST WOMAN in the country, (whose family owned diamond and gold mines)..... SO... never judge a person by their clothes!!(Her chauffeur had parked the Rolls Royce out of site round the corner)

I agree wholeheartedly! My personal choice in hot weather is.. bikini top and sarong and barefeet.

Unfortunately here in CH, is a freezing winter... so gotta wear LOTS of clothes now. But it gives the body a rest from trying to look so good in summer! Just got to remember there is a body underneath all the layers.... and remember to excercise it... sometimes we forget we got bodies with all the thermal wear! And then to make matters worse, probably cause I come from a hot country, is that when winter approaches, my body puts on a thermal layer as protection against the cold!!!!! where it got that idea from I have no idea, it just thought that one up all on its own. but I noticed it last winter, and when I popped back to my hot country for a visit.... all the blubber layer evaporated within 4 days!!!! so it must be the cold that did it.... incredible.

Out there in the Rainforests the Pygmies wear what they came into the world in...... But the Eskimos dont!.... its too cold.

Its not the kids that are fashion conscious... its the parents.
Kids just want a Tribal Identity, and the parents are willing and able to pay for it! Clothes arent made by Mama anymore..... so Designer labels give a "one-up-manship" of status, and satisfy the guilt feelings of working Moms. devil dancing cool

Well Wedy man..... you gotta learn to shop at the right times, at the right places. Like now you go out and buy for next winter, and at the end of summer you buy for the following summer. A bit difficult with a growing child, but you can estimate their growth rate. Of course,, you gotta stay away from extreme fashion items cause they will be out of fashion the next year. So what you save on the essentials, you can make up for in a few newer styles.
I am not the expert here... thats just my ideas. We have a lot of cousins and older kid friends... so a lot of clothing gets passed down to my grandkids... and comes in mighty useful.
We also have a childrens second-hand shop in the village.. where snow-suits and other clothing is a fraction of the new cost, and in excellent condition, just out-grown.
