bmcg1: fair point......

it wasnt meant in a childish way....and wasnt directed at anyone in particular....but you seem to know who i'm talking about all the same....why would you want the "ban"button removed?
and i agree....the forums should be about having a laugh, and messing, and fun....couldnt agree more, but they should also be about being able to discuss whatever topic that is brought up,without it turning into a farce 3 posts in....my point being, this stops others from participating.......compare the international forums to the .ie forums, and you will see what i mean....
you answered the question yourself, the ban button prevents others from taking part in threads because the OP either doesnt like them or doesnt like what they have to say. it also means people who have been banned from the thread dont have the chance to defend themselves, possibly not in this thread but in general.

yeah theres some messing about and acting the fool tonight but it the busiest friday night iv seen in a while bearing in mind it is near 1am and theres still a good few knocking about though i could be totally wrong on that dunno

oh and cant compare to the international forums as i never go anywhere near them and i aint about to start now laugh

no.....the ban button was used in this case, not because i didnt like the people involved....its the bloody internet after all!or that i didnt like what they had to say.....because to be honest, they werent saying a whole lot,but they were not contributing to the thread.....and the very first post demonstrated exactly what i was talking about....ie the bull that stops other people posting......thats all....
this was supposed to be a thread about getting people that normally look in,and say nothing,to start posting!!and then there would be a lot more fun/discussion for everyone.....
but it went a lil pear shaped......
ah well!!!!wine

thats why i said possibly not in this thread but in general. its very rare something stays on topic on here and some people do use here as light relief. i do get why you started the thread though and hopefully some of those looking in will post but to be honest if they are lurkers reading the forums then they know exactly what way things are here. some days its a good laugh and everyone gets on grand and other days it can be like ww3 has broken out but its just the way social forums run dunno

and i totally agree with you!!!!and i know the way forums run....and there is nothing wrong with that!!!!!
and if there are "lurkers"(!)well lets hope they do....but its very hard for them to do that......
for example.....i had a thread on here at christmas...and i got more mails privately, than i did replies on the thread....and most said it was because they didnt want to post here.....now that tells me that there is something wrong...and that there is a whole wealth of knowledge/fun/laughs/whatever out there that are just not posting.....not because its anyones fault,or because i'm this,or youre this or she's that....
its a pity thats all....these forums are great craic....
but they could be so much better

they could be and it is hard for new people to start posting but sure we were all in the same boat at one point. its one of those things that you just have to throw yourself in at the deep end and see what happens dunno

bmcg1: Hey there all

Just an idea....there are a lot of people that read these forums, and dont comment/post for whatever reason.....hows about an open thread like this, where all the people that usually read, but dont comment can do so!!!!!
Its unbelievable the amount of people who mail a poster privately, rather than post on here, because of the fear of ridicule/not being taken seriously,or the thread being hijacked....and in fairness,we all know what that is about.......
So lets start anew....
And welcome all our friends in from the wilderness of reading the .IE forums....and make them realise that we are not all muppets!!!

Good idea or no??????????????????

Discuss..........

I applaud what you were trying to do. The forums need new members and I hope they do join in.
Pity about the thread though.
Hopefully they will still join in thumbs up
