No longer with us and I guess his work might be considered somewhat dated, but I like David Leans work, particularly fond of 'Ryans Daughter'

Apart from that, like Terrence Mallick, Oliver Hirschbiegel, Tom Ford (I know he only done one movie 'A Single Man', but WHAT a movie, I'm looking forward to seeing more from him!!)

Speaking of Woody Allen, I could never take to the guy! I went to see one of his movies lastnight 'Midnight in Paris', ughhh, what can I say, it seriously lacked!! Only for there were several people either side of me in a fairly tight theatre I was gone half way through! mumbling

Ridley Scott - The Dualists is amazing although it is his self professed homage to Kubricks Barry Lyndon - I am also partial to Dario Argento, especially his earlier giallo stuff. And lets not forget Preston Sturges and the Coen brothers who were heavily influenced by him
