Rep. of Ireland 23 man Squad... (30)

DUBLINGUY1973: I think its a decent squad although I think we might miss McCarthy but obviously family comes first and I wish his father a speedy recovery. I'm delighted that McClean was included because I think he gives us more options in midfield. As for Stephen Ireland, personally I wouldn't call him scum but I'm glad he was left out. He looked like a good player at City but he he has never really looked the same player since. I have sympathy for him and his girlfriend losing the baby and I wouldn't hold the fact that he lied about it against him. It was obviously a traumatic time and i think its unfair to judge someone on the basis of that unless you have been in that situation. Having said that, i think he has been running hot and cold ever since then in terms of his form and not only that but also the fact that he seems to change his mind a lot regarding whether he wants to come back into the Ireland set up or not. He even did a few interviews with various newspapers over the last few years slagging off the Ireland set-up and the irish people so that didn't exactly ingratiate himself to the fans. If he actually does want to come back in the future, he needs to keep his head down, his mouth shut and let his football do the talking. For me, he would probably be good enough to get back into the Ireland squad but he has a long way to go before he proves he would actually make the starting line up.

In terms of football ability he's our most talented player, his form was just as good as anyone elses, he was voted fans player of the season, ahead of Dunne, Clarke etc.

He doesn't owe me anything, if he wants to play for Ireland then he should, simple as that!!

It is "if he wants to"..as a player you have to make yourself available for selection...he hasn't..at the end of the day it's up to him, if he doesn't enjoy it and misses his family when he's away then who are you to judge him?? Like anyone else he has an opinion on the squad and set up so you can't hate him for that either!!

He is talented but as Vinny said, he may cause unrest within the camp. The last thing we need is someone who may be a disruptive influence. He hasn't shown his commitment towards the Ireland team (quite the opposite in fact) and until he does, Trapp can't even consider him.

It's International football not club football, none of them have a right or a contract to be there..it's not as if he's only played 2 games and then quit, he's played for Ireland since he was 15, has 6 Senior caps and scored 4 (anyone remember them??)

If he made himself available for selection then i guarantee he will be picked..then if he scores the winner in the next game all will be forgiven!!

Probably. All I am saying is he has to make himself available first and if he does, will he stick around this time? More importantly, if he is not picked, is he going to go whinging to the press again? That wouldn't be in the best interests of the team.

DUBLINGUY1973: A bit odd? Thats like saying he's kinda going bald The guy was as mad as Balotelli is. I do think you can handle guys that are a bit eccentric as long as they do the right things on the pitch but only if it doesn't impact on the team adversely. I still think he has a bit to prove in that regard.

Haha yeah true, but that's what people are holding against him, his form has dipped since City, that's obvious but i think he's getting some of it back and just needs a good season, i heard he's moving to The States though so there's another bad move, he's better than Spearing and Henderson in my view so i'd love to see him at Liverpool next season!!

You could say the same about lots of players though. Torres and Carroll included. Its up to them to turn things around though. As for being better than Spearing or Henderson, to be fair that wouldn't be too difficult. I'm sure a lot of Liverpool fans are wondering why the club spent so much money on Henderson particularly.
