...sitting in your rocking chair and looking back on your life, how would you like it to look?

What would you have done, where would you have travelled, what type of person would you have been, what you feel most proud of?

What are you doing now to make sure those things come to pass? conversing teddybear

If I am lucky/unlucky depending on how you look at it to live to 90 I hope I look back on my life with little or no regrets.

I want my life to look like I enjoyed it to the best of my ability, to have made small differences in the lives of the people I love.
Have been to all the places I want to see.
And hopefully still have people around me that love me.

I just want to look back on my life and say damn I did well blues

I love being me, I always try to make the right decision, in my business and social life I am always fair and can honestly say I have never treated anyone in a way I would not like to be treated myself, I live my life by my faith and belief in Gods simple message of do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I like to be able to look in the mirror and feel pride and respect for the man I see there.
There are a few countries I haven't been to yet that are a must do, Africa, India, China and Far East, wouldn't mind a wander around the Holy Land at some stage.

wouldn't like to live to 90...70 would be enough for me chances are you'd be in tremendous pain at that age with arthritus..be confined to a wheelchair and possibly have a mental illness like dementia..you probably wouldn't remember half your life anywayireland

Good for you! (and I'm not being sarcastic) Most people are so unhappy with themselves. I think being able to look yourself square in the eye and know you have done right by people is a great gauge of how you are doing in this adventure called life.
As for countries to visit, well I've been to a lot but there are so, so many more to get to!sigh The Holy Land is on my list as is Petra on horseback and the Camino too.

I think making a difference is so important. It takes us out of ourselves and our drama and gives us a sense of fulfillment and purpose. A few years ago I really was in the depths of despair and I was so caught up in my pity parties. However when I started volunteering, my whole life and perspective shifted and I regained respect for myself in the process.

Of course you'll have people around you who love you! Who wouldn't love you Annie??dunno hug

We are all allowed our pity parties, god knows I have had plenty but no matter how bad I get I remind myself someone somewhere is worse than me and if I don't shake myself I will never get away from the pity.

Oh god I can think of one or two people who don't love me and do hate me sigh

I would like I would back on my life knowing I was a decent person to all those I met in my life. I would also love to be able to giggle at some of the silly things I got up to, remember some of the exciting things that I experienced and most of all I would love to look at my 3 children knowing they are happy content adults and I was a mum to the best of my ability.

This thread has made me think that I need to do a bucket list laugh

Well if it's justifiable, you can try to make amends. We have all done things we regret. If it's not justifiable, it says more about them than it does about you. hug

Ah you would have to ask them if it is or not. I only have one regret in my life and if I make it to 90 with that 1 only I think I will have done well.

I can already do THAT!! Oh my college days! The shame! The clothes! The hangovers!grin As for the bucket list. Well that's why I started the thread. I've got a big birthday coming up soon and it got me thinking. "If the last 20 years have flown by that fast, what do I want the next 20 to look like?" Sometimes is good to take an inventory of your life and make the necessary changes or take the next steps.

Ouch...I am over half way there...
I would prefer to think that people would say "Ah I hope she makes another year" than..."Is that auld witch not dead yet?". Then again I have never been overly concerned what people think of me apart from the innate human nature factor.
Dont know where I will have travelled I like to play it by ear. I would hope that I would have been the type of person that muddled through life without being nasty to others...well unless I really felt that I had to. If people remembered me I would like if they could recall a time when we had a right auld laugh and not anything sad.
I would like to be able to remember watching Cavan win an All Ireland in Croke parkcheering ....Most importantly...if I am sitting in a rocking chair replaying that same All Ireland....God help the person who tries to tell me that I am "raving" and that it never happened!rolling on the floor laughing

Yep Annie I want to feel alive and feel I lived a little, lived a very quiet life for my age, life certainly began for me in the last few years and I intend to live this life of mine without losing focus of what really matters. dancing

Funeral wishes are important. My sister already knows what to do. Being a control freak, I made sure she has her orders a long time ago.laugh

Laralou: Humanist ceremony and green grave for me Don't worry, she's not cold. She's wherever she wants to be. With you most of the time I'd imagine so just make sure you pay those heating bills and she'll be alright!

I know my belief system tells me she is happy and watching me
my inner child tells me otherwise blushing
