In Concert....

Music calms the savage beast, it covers our moods whatever they might be, happy, sad, angry, contemplative...No small achievement when you think about it...

Think of a time in your life when music couldn't be associated with an event, in that the music becomes the soundtrack to your life...Your first kiss, the first time you listened to a song in your car, the time you brought your first album, tape or cd, true then, you remember all those times with fondness...

Now think of that first concert you attended, the 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond, the anticipation, the waiting for weeks on end for the date to arrive when you would be standing in the que to see "the show of your life"...

However much we might love to see "our team" on match days, or the latest massive "blockbuster" or "arthouse" film at the movie house, the concert must still be the most immersive performance experience, that will of course assume your not being "dragged along" as a comfort keeper for someone else....

I have been fortunate enough to see some pretty famous acts in the last 35 years, but the one thing they all had in common was a shared transfer of enthusiasm, that thing where the musicians on stage had a love of there art and a commitment to perform and entertain there audience....

Weather simple folk music in a pub or club, or massive stadium concerts, the tennet has remained true, music is art for art sake and though the big money falls occasionally, many musicians eek a living out of the live circuit , literally living from one gig to the next, playing for food and lodging you could say, it could be where the expression "sing for your supper came from"....

So, after a little time re-familiarising myself with the bass, i remember the men and women who inspired me to take up playing all those years ago and say a small "thankyou" for there inspiration...

To think of a life without a "soundtrack" could be likend to all food tasting like a "happy meal" (who decided a cruddy little beef pattie would make someone happy?).....
