Do you think a lot of this is a con??? Obviously not on dairy produce, etc. BUT, the reason I have thought about this is because I have just made a prawn pil-pil, which includes a chilli...........and the dried chillies I have are OVER 20 YEARS OLD!!!!!! They still pack a punch!!!!
How many other things do we throw out that are perfectly usable.
I also have a skin foundation, which I use very rarely..........and that is also about 25 years old and still perfect.......meaning I haven´t come out in a rash when I´ve used it.:gri

With prescriptions I have been told that it will still work for a year after the expiration date

Personally I wouldn't put food in my mouth that is 20 years old.

Cosmetics have harsh chemicals including gasoline in them so I respect those dates. They don't get old cause I'm always using them.

I don't use canned food except tuna fish.

Things like flour, cereal, dried products can get those little black bugs in them if you keep them around too long. YUK !

Expiration dates are there for a good reason. You can push it but .... 25 years....wow

Common sense must always take preference, but I do think a lot of waste is just money making.

I think wine and cheese are at their best when old.

Sometimes, women don't get old...they get better...applause

The expiration date or “best before” are just a way to keep a time line for products to be eaten safely. However, many factors can change that.

-A bad storage will shorten the life of the products
-Vacuum sealed packages can last much longer
- Storage of some grains, dry vegetables, spices, coffee, .. in the freezer not only extend their life but also keep its properties
Etc..

Some time ago I was reading an article about a package of Salmon that had been in the trash for over 10 yr and some people run some test and that Salmon was ok to eat.

No matter the conditions of storage:

To be in the safe side

I would not try anything with animal protein that has expired!
(that includes the Father of my children)
