I suspect the problem has nothing to do with mirrors, or hair as such.

I suspect there's something going on inside his head which he needs to unravel, like he once had a bad experience for not checking his hair, he's been over-valued for his looks and little else, or he has some need to have control over something and controlling how he looks is a substitute for other areas where he feels out of control.

I would call it being an obsession.

I usually see someone else when I look in the mirror. It's been going on for over 30+ years.
I guess it's that Hairstylist's occupational routine that is responsible. LOL
I used to work for a Barber Shop years ago and the owner always would look at himself while the client was busy watching tv. That is one of the differences in Barbering and Hairstyling that a Barber will turn you away from the mirror and a Hairstylist usually works with the client faced towards the mirror. I am both Barber and Hairstylist but I typically work towards the mirror though I can go either way. I even cut this guys hair in the pouring rain with no mirror and he was selling flowers on a corner. I think we almost caused a wreck from cars slowing down to stare.
