Guess, should be able to get out of the airport for at least 3 hours....what can one see or do, in mid afternoon, in 3 hours, close to the Miami airport (so I can still return in time to check-in for the connecting flight)?

Oh? Is Miami so bad? But then how will I leave the airport on reaching my destination? Cant live all my life inside the airport...and hey, if I knew how to take care of myself in Mozambique, Congo and so many other places where law and order situation is worse than the US, I am sure I can take care of myself in Miami...just need some advise on what is available for a tourist within close distance of Miami airport...like not more than one hour drive away even with traffic...

I am from Belgium and stopped over in Miami
what I did with my daughter was get a cab to a shopping mall, think it was the Blue dolphin or some think like that and went shopping or rather she did.
If you go to the harbour you may see the cruise ships.

I don't know where your final destination is, but I would stay inside the airport!
Once you leave the security perimeters you have to re-enter through security again, and sometimes the lines can be hours long, especially at a busy international airport.
