Well I didn't know that Santo and Johnny were the original composers of this old classic, I thought it was the Shadows lol but anyway, I love the tune and I love it even more when it was redone by Joe Satriani.

With the famous "Cake out in the rain," this is one of the more lyrically intriguing songs ever recorded. Jimmy Webb, who wrote the song, explained in Q magazine: "It's clearly about a love affair ending and the person singing it is using the cake in the rain as a metaphor for that. Ok, it may be far out there and a bit incomprehensible, but I wrote the song at a time in the 1960s when surrealistic lyrics were the order of the day." The love affair Webb speaks of was with Susan Ronstadt, Linda Ronstadt's cousin. Said Webb (in the Los Angeles Times), "MacArthur Park was where we met for lunch and paddleboat rides and feeding the ducks. She worked across the street at a life insurance company. Those Lyrics were all very real to me: there was nothing psychedelic about it to me. The cake was an available object. It was what I saw in the park at the birthday parties, but people have very strong reactions to the song. There's been a lot of intellectual venom."

George Martin who produced a lot of the Beatles music put out an album a while ago of Beatles songs covered by other people, the people he chose were interesting and in the case of some, not musicians but they did an amazing job.

Here's the playlist:

"Come Together" – Featuring Robin Williams and Bobby McFerrin on vocals

"A Hard Day's Night" – Featuring Goldie Hawn on keyboards and vocals

"A Day in the Life" – An instrumental version, featuring Jeff Beck on guitar

"Here, There and Everywhere" – Featuring Céline Dion on vocals

"Because" – Featuring Vanessa-Mae on violin

"I Am the Walrus" – Featuring Jim Carrey on keyboards and vocals

"Here Comes the Sun" (George Harrison) – Featuring guitarist John Williams

"Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" – Featuring Billy Connolly on vocals

"The Pepperland Suite" (George Martin) – Originally appeared in 1969 album Yellow Submarine, with new arrangements

"Golden Slumbers"/"Carry That Weight"/"The End" – Featuring Phil Collins on drums, percussion and vocals

"Friends and Lovers" (George Martin)

"In My Life" – Featuring Sean Connery on lead spoken word vocal
