Though I'm not Christian, I embrace the spirit of the season and 'celebrate' along with family and friends who are.
Through a local charity my girls 'adopted' someone in need of support, and shopped and donated gifts for her in lieu of buying me stuff (my request). All is done anonymously.
They were paired with a young woman close to their own age who has suddenly been thrust out on her own and has nothing. They really took it to heart and it brought tears to my eyes when I found out all the things they chose for her and the care they took in doing so.
I used to be on a site where every year at this time they would organize a Secret Santa where people would sign up and they would be given others members addresses and info and they would anonymously mail out packages or send packages with toys, food etc...It was great to see the reactions of those who didn't even expect it.
My son and I like to go through his toys and some of our clothes every year and donate them to the Salvation army in our area. Makes us feel great to know that there are some out there who get to enjoy the things we used to enjoy and bring it to good use.
Kudos to your kids for doing this. That is an awesome idea!!!
